Yusuf Tuggar, former minister of foreign affairs, has faulted the outcome of the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state.
Mohammed Abubakar, a former governor of Bauchi, defeated
Tuggar and five other aspirants to clinch the APC governorship ticket for
Bauchi state.
John Abang, who chaired the APC governorship and house of
assembly primary committee in the state, had announced that Abubakar won the
primary election with 57,517 votes.
Tuggar finished second with 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu
Soro polled 13,638 votes. Bala Wunti recorded 13,648 votes, and Kabir Ma’aji
scored 8,157 votes.
Tuggar had resigned as the minister of foreign affairs to
contest the Bauchi APC governorship primary election.
Speaking in an recent interview published by DC Hausa,
Tuggar said he wanted a governorship primary election that would be free and
fair, where everyone would accept the outcome of the exercise.
The former minister said in the build-up to the election,
Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman, said Abubakar had been chosen as the
APC Bauchi governorship candidate.
Tuggar alleged that Ali Pate, coordinating minister of
health and social welfare, who hails from the state, met with President Bola
Tinubu to plead that he should not be allowed to emerge as the governorship
candidate
The former minister accused Pate of imposing aspirants on
the party in Bauchi,adding that politicians are leaving the party over the
anti-democratic process.
“The minister from our state (Pate) met with Mr. President
and cried in front of him, begging him not to let me become the candidate in
Bauchi state,” Tuggar spoke in Hausa Language.
“There are many processes in politics, but we didn’t know
that crying was one of them. Personally, I don’t fake cry; it is not in my
nature, and I am not lazy.
“What we know how to do is go to the polls and give the
people the chance to vote for whomever they want.
“No one stopped our minister from resigning and contesting.
The President had instructed his cabinet that anyone wishing to contest must
resign before March 31st.
“He should have resigned and contested instead of just
handpicking the APC candidates. If you want to contest, let’s go out and
campaign to the people if they vote for you, that’s fine, and if they don’t,
that’s also fine.
“Our hope is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will look into
the injustice happening within the APC, which is causing many prominent
politicians to leave the party.”
