The Nigerian Army has announced major successes by troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) under Operation Desert Sanity V and ongoing siege operations.
In a significant breakthrough, troops operating along the Ngoshe–Amuda axis in Gwoza Local Government Area rescued four abducted civilians, two women and two children — who were taken during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community on March 3, 2026.
The rescued victims are:Salamatu Sidiq Ali (19)
Halima Idrisa (20)
Umar Abdullahi (3)
Mustapha Abdullahi (4)
Preliminary debriefing revealed the victims were held in a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains.
They were freed due to sustained military pressure on insurgent hideouts. After medical evaluation, they were safely reunited with their families.
The military noted that a total of 65 abducted persons have so far been rescued in the region, with efforts continuing to free others.
In related operations, troops arrested suspected terrorist collaborators supplying logistics to insurgents:
Mrs. Kellu Alhaji Abba (50) was apprehended at a checkpoint in Baga, Kukawa LGA. She was found with clothing materials and supplies intended for a terrorist operative in the Dumba area.
Mr. Amadu Abdu (50) was arrested along the Dalori axis while transporting packaged goods, a mobile phone, a cutlass, suspected illicit substances, and cash. Investigations showed he had been supplying insurgents in exchange for grazing access.
Additionally, troops working with local hunters arrested four suspected cattle rustlers and terrorist collaborators at Kwaya Kusar Market. They were caught with stolen livestock.
The operations also recorded the surrender of family members linked to Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Aishatu Sale (20) surrendered in Bama LGA, while Hauwa Abubakar (70) escaped from a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains. Both cited intense military pressure and dire living conditions in the camps as reasons for fleeing.
They have been profiled and are undergoing appropriate procedures.Troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle and a loaded magazine along a known terrorist withdrawal route.
These achievements highlight the continued effectiveness of military operations in degrading terrorist capabilities and securing the release of hostages in the North-East.
