Activist politician Omoyele Sowore has declared that President Bola Tinubu is no different from former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Sowore made the statement on Friday, May 8, 2026, while speaking with journalists after a court session at the Abuja Federal High Court.
The court, presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, had dismissed Sowore’s no-case submission in a cyberbullying charge filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The DSS accused Sowore of cyberbullying President Tinubu by allegedly referring to him as a “criminal” on his Twitter (X) handle. The court ordered Sowore to open his defence.
Addressing reporters after the proceedings, Sowore insisted that the political class shares the same fears and limitations.
“Jonathan is not different from Tinubu, Tinubu is not different from Atiku, Atiku is not different from Obi or Kwankwaso,” he said.
“We are the ones who are different and that is the idea that they are afraid of in all these struggles that you are seeing.”
Sowore added that he would face similar persecution under any of the other leaders because they cannot tolerate progressive ideas that could truly liberate the country.
“If anyone one of them was in power I would still be here because they can’t tolerate progressive ideas that would liberate the country,” he stated.
“The best choice is standing in front of you because I can’t be recommending people who failed you while calling them a better choice.”
He accused the political elite of distracting Nigerians from real solutions and using legal tactics, such as repeated court cases, to tie down critics. Sowore claimed this was part of a broader strategy to prevent genuine change and liberation for the country.
