Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.

Professor Oloyede has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016, earning widespread acclaim for reforming the board’s operations, enhancing transparency in admissions processes, introducing computer-based testing improvements, and strengthening accountability. His decade-long tenure is credited with significantly modernizing JAMB and restoring public confidence in the examination system.

Sources indicate that Professor Aina’s appointment reflects the administration’s focus on injecting fresh expertise, particularly in digital technology and academic administration, to build on the gains recorded under Professor Oloyede.

The incoming registrar is expected to assume office on August 1, 2026, following the conclusion of the current leadership’s term. This development has generated discussions within education circles, with observers anticipating continuity in JAMB’s drive toward efficiency while addressing emerging challenges in tertiary admissions.

Professor Aina brings a background in computer engineering, research, and institutional leadership that stakeholders believe will support JAMB’s ongoing digital transformation.

Further details on the appointment, including the formal handover process and Professor Aina’s immediate priorities, are expected from the Federal Ministry of Education in the coming weeks.
