Terrorists kill three police officers in Kwara community

Terrorists again struck at Tenibo community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three mobile police officers.

This came 11 days after three soldiers were killed at Kemanji community following more than two hours of gunfight.

According to Vanguard, the latest development has caused pandemonium in Tenibo and neighbouring communities, as residents have begun relocating from their homes to safer communities.

The latest tragedy, it was gathered, happened in the wee hours of Saturday, around midnight. Terrorists sneaked out from the forest to attack the security base and shot three mobile police officers dead.

Local sources who confided in Vanguard Saturday morning said that the terrorists apparently overwhelmed the security base as they escaped to the forests after the fatal shooting.

A member of staff at Kaiama Local Government, who preferred not to be mentioned in print, also confirmed the development.

A local, who craved anonymity, urged the government to clear the forests and allow residents to farm there.

“The thick forest where the terrorists are hiding is just about a kilometre from the community, so it makes it easy for them to come out, attack the security people and return to the thick forest.

”I know the place is very big, but the government can afford to clear the whole place, chase away the terrorists and encourage residents to farm there. This would largely stop the killings.

“Government can’t just be looking while terrorists are killing soldiers and our police like chickens; they’re also human beings like us. Something must be done urgently,” he said.

Chairman of Kaima Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, confirmed the development in an interview with Vanguard on Saturday.

“Yes, the development again happened this morning, the terrorists killed three of our mobile police officers.

“The local government is trying its best, we are evolving a synergy with the state and federal governments to stop this kind of unfortunate development. It’s not something we can do alone,” he said.
