Six ISWAP Bomb Makers Killed in Premature IED Explosion in Borno

Six suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed on Saturday after an improvised explosive device (IED) they were assembling detonated prematurely in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. at Jubilaram community, where the terrorists were preparing the explosive device.

The group was led by a suspected bomb expert identified as Abu Umar, who died in the blast along with five other militants. Three additional members of the group sustained serious injuries.

The deceased were said to be part of ISWAP’s IED-making cell operating along the Marte–Kerenoa–Wulgo axis, a known insurgent corridor in the Lake Chad region.

The explosion destroyed an IED manufacturing hub located between Arinna Maimasallaci and Arinna Ciki.

Intelligence assessments indicate that the loss of Abu Umar and other bomb-making specialists could significantly disrupt ISWAP’s ability to manufacture and deploy IEDs in the area, at least in the short term.

Military sources say the development presents an opportunity for follow-up air and ground operations to further weaken the group’s activities along key routes in the Marte axis.
