The City Boy Movement says Seyi Tinubu, son of President
Bola Tinubu, did not say God cannot stop his father from serving eight years as
president.
Recently, a Facebook user identified as Albab Abdullahi
published an article alleging that Seyi made a “blasphemous” comment to “put
God under the bus” because of his father’s 2027 ambition.
“There is nothing that can stop my father from completing
his eight years in power. Not even God is capable,” the Facebook user accused
Seyi of saying.
The Facebook user did not state when and where the
president’s son purportedly made the comment.
TheCable cannot find a video or any other evidence to
suggest that the president’s son made the comment credited to him.
‘ENTIRELY FALSE AND MALICIOUS’
A statement on Monday by O’tega Ogra, deputy
director-general, communication and public affairs of the movement, said the
president’s son did not make the “blasphemous” comment.
Ogra said the article is a “deliberate falsehood designed to
damage his name, distort his values and provoke needless religious tension in
the country”.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Barr. Seyi Tinubu did not make
the statement credited to him. He has never made such a statement at any time,
in any place, through any channel, or under any circumstance whatsoever,” the
statement reads.
“The attribution is entirely false. It is malicious in
intent, reckless in circulation and dangerous in consequence.
“Barr. Seyi Tinubu is a man of faith who holds deep
reverence for Almighty God. He believes firmly that all power belongs to God
alone, and that no man can attain, retain or exercise authority except by the
grace, mercy and permission of the Almighty.
“He has never insulted, mocked, questioned or diminished the
supremacy of Almighty God or Allah, and will never do so.
“Any attempt to present him as a person without reverence
for God is a deliberate falsehood designed to damage his name, distort his
values and provoke needless religious tension in the country.
“While Barr. Seyi Tinubu remains committed to mobilising
support for the re election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in 2027, he
also recognises that every political aspiration, every public effort and every
human endeavour can only succeed by the will and guidance of Almighty God.”
