Kwankwaso Working for Tinubu in 2027, Obi Partnership is Temporary – Kano gov’s aide, Bature

Kano State Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, has alleged that former Kano Governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is indirectly working for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bature described any proposed political alliance between Kwankwaso and Labour Party’s Peter Obi as temporary and unsustainable.

Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Bature claimed the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is no longer a viable platform for 2027, stating that key stakeholders, including Kwankwaso, have reached a consensus on exploring alternative options, particularly with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The NNPP is no longer a formidable platform for 2027. There was an agreement among critical stakeholders, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, to find a lasting solution ahead of 2027 because the NNPP cannot fly on its own,” he said.

Bature added that discussions had been held on possible realignment, revealing that with Kwankwaso’s consent, they approached President Tinubu and the APC as “Option A.”

He claimed Kwankwaso initially showed interest in personally engaging Tinubu but later cancelled a scheduled meeting due to a trip to China and never rescheduled.

On the speculated Kwankwaso-Obi alliance, Bature dismissed it outright, arguing it does not align with political realities in Kano.

“A Peter Obi-Kwankwaso ticket in Kano is strange. Kwankwaso, a PhD holder, deputising Obi, who only holds a first degree, doesn’t look like the Kwankwaso we know. I don’t see this partnership working,” he said.

He further predicted that such a ticket would struggle significantly in Kano, claiming it would not even secure one million votes compared to Kwankwaso’s performance under NNPP in 2023.

Bature maintained that a large portion of Kwankwaso’s supporters had already moved to the APC.
