The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, says his party is not under any pressure to recruit prominent opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking on the possibility of the two politicians joining the PRP, Baba-Ahmed said the party harbours no resentment over their decision to stay away and respects their political choices.
“We don’t have any problem with them not coming to our party. We wish them luck wherever they go,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed noted that the tight political timeline ahead of major elections may be discouraging some politicians from moving between parties.
He ruled out any desperation for high-profile defections, stating that the PRP is receiving increasing interest from other Nigerians and remains focused on its principles.
“We are getting a lot of other people who are coming into our party and we are very happy about that. We are a party of principles,” he added.
The PRP chairman also dismissed reports of internal divisions within the party.“In spite of efforts to demarket PRP and to create the false story that there are schisms and factions in PRP, we are solid.
We don’t have factions. We don’t have problems with either INEC or the law,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He reiterated that the party does not question the motives of politicians who choose other platforms, adding that it trusts their judgement and wishes them well.
