A major political shake-up has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, with 12 serving lawmakers, eight from the State House of Assembly and four from the House of Representatives failing to win their party's nomination for the 2027 general elections.
The development follows the conclusion of the APC primaries, where party stakeholders adopted a consensus arrangement in several constituencies, effectively blocking the incumbent lawmakers from returning.
Affected State Assembly Members
The eight members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly who lost out are: Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad Jallo (Hadejia Constituency)
Mas’ud Abdulrahman Naruwa (Babura)
Idris Garba (Jahun)
Ibrahim Ya’u (Gagarawa)
Aliyu Ahmad Aliyu (Kiri-Kasamma)
Muhammad Adamu (Kafin Hausa)
Yusuf Ahmed (Bulangu)
Aminu Sule (Ringim)
These lawmakers reportedly could not secure the necessary backing during stakeholders’ screening and consensus meetings held ahead of the primaries.
Affected Federal Lawmakers
Four serving members of the House of Representatives also failed to obtain the APC ticket: Usman Ibrahim (Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency)
Sa’idu Yusif (Jahun/Miga Federal Constituency)
Sa’adu Wada (Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency)
Muhammad Muktar (Kazaure/Gwiwa/Roni Federal Constituency)
The federal lawmakers did not participate in the primary elections, which wrapped up on Wednesday and late Saturday. Party delegates and constituency leaders chose to back new aspirants instead.
Observers describe the outcome as a significant political realignment within the APC in Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 polls, signaling a shift in power dynamics and stakeholder preferences at both state and federal levels.
