The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has wrapped up the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as the only aspirant to purchase the forms.
Party sources revealed that Obi submitted his application before the deadline closed on Sunday, May 17, 2026, positioning him as the clear frontrunner for the party’s presidential ticket.
The former Anambra State governor recently defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has generated significant interest in Nigeria’s shifting political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an official statement, NDC National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu confirmed that while the presidential form sales window has ended, the party has extended the deadline for other elective positions including governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly tickets to midnight on May 24, 2026.
Screening of all aspirants is scheduled to begin today, May 19, and run through May 26, 2026. Successful candidates will then proceed to the nomination stage.
The party said aspirants must submit academic certificates, voter identification, birth records or sworn age declarations, passport photographs, party membership documents, and six copies of their curriculum vitae.
According to the NDC, the screening process will evaluate competence, character, grassroots support, zoning arrangements, and local political dynamics, while incorporating the party’s affirmative action for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.
With no other presidential aspirant purchasing forms before the deadline, Peter Obi is widely expected to emerge as the NDC’s consensus presidential candidate upon successful completion of the screening and clearance process.
