PDP Crisis: ‘Stop Being Fraudulent’ – Wike Blasts Makinde, Turaki, Others

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday intensified the ongoing leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a sharp attack on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, accusing them of fraud and defying court orders.

Speaking during a media interaction with journalists in Abuja, Wike rejected any notion of a legitimate interim leadership structure in the party, labeling such arrangements as illegal and deceptive.

“When will people stop being fraudulent? You cannot disobey court judgments and then turn around to deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure. That is not how democracy works,” Wike said.

The FCT Minister stressed that only a leadership recognized by the courts can legitimately run the PDP’s affairs. He warned that any parallel or self-appointed structure is invalid.

“You don’t form a leadership in your bedroom and call it a national structure. Let them open an office anywhere and call it PDP secretariat – I dare them. That is how you know what is real and what is not,” he declared.

Wike described ongoing efforts to set up what he called an “illegal caretaker arrangement” as attempts to mislead party members and the public. He emphasized that the judiciary has already provided clear direction on the matter.

He also lamented what he sees as a decline in integrity among some political figures, including senior lawyers and party leaders, whom he accused of undermining institutions for personal benefit.

“People you expect to uphold the law are the ones trying to bend it. That is the tragedy of our system,” Wike added.

The remarks come amid a prolonged leadership tussle in the PDP, with rival factions trading accusations and taking opposing legal and political positions.
