Businessman and All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Stanley Osifo has accepted his overwhelming defeat in the party’s nationwide direct primary, pledging unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC’s success in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking exclusively to Punch shortly after the results were collated and announced at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja on Sunday, Osifo said, “I think God knows better, and God knows tomorrow.”
Osifo polled just 16,503 votes compared to President Tinubu’s massive 10,999,162 votes in the primary held across 8,809 wards on Saturday.
When asked if he was satisfied with the outcome, he replied: “I’m not okay with the outcome of the results. But I’m working with the party, I’m working with the candidate of the party as well. I have no problem with it.”
He stressed that his decision to buy the N100 million nomination form and contest was never about personal rivalry with Tinubu, but rather a legitimate internal democratic process within the party.
“We are one party, we are members of the All Progressives Congress, we are one family. So we are not challenging ourselves. What we did was to have within ourselves who will become the candidate of the party,” Osifo explained.
He welcomed President Tinubu’s earlier statement that he harboured no grudge, describing it as mutual.
“That is why we are working together. We are one party, so we must work together. Nobody is an island,” he added.
Osifo also thanked his supporters and coordinators across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for their efforts, noting that building such a structure was no small feat.
As a young man with many years ahead, he expressed optimism about the future while placing his trust in divine timing: “I am a very young man. I have a lot of years ahead of me… But I think God knows better, and God knows tomorrow. So let’s just hope on God and work as we move forward.”
Osifo emerged as the sole formal challenger to Tinubu after a planned consensus arrangement fell through. He reportedly scored zero votes in several states, including the FCT, Delta, Kogi, Ebonyi, and Jigawa.
His graceful concession and pledge of loyalty underscore efforts toward party unity as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential election with Tinubu as its flagbearer.
