Oshiomhole Wins Edo APC Senatorial Primaries Unopposed

Former Edo State Governor and incumbent Senator Adams Oshiomhole has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Edo North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, winning unopposed.

Oshiomhole, alongside Senator Joe Ikpea of Edo Central, sailed through the primaries without any contest, as no other aspirants challenged their candidacies.

This allowed both incumbents to clinch their party tickets without a single vote cast against them.

In contrast, the Edo South Senatorial District primary saw a competitive race. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama emerged victorious, polling 27,154 votes to defeat incumbent Senator Neda Imasuen (13,580 votes) and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu (6,785 votes).

The results were announced by the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Muhammed Ajana, at the Urokpota Hall in Benin City.

The process in Edo North and Edo Central districts was described as hitch-free, with delegates affirming the incumbents by consensus.

However, the Edo South exercise was marred by controversy. Senator Imasuen described the process as a "sham," alleging manipulation, intimidation, and the adoption of a preferred candidate by party leaders.

Some reports also emerged claiming Ize-Iyamu as the winner, adding to the disputes surrounding the collation.

Oshiomhole's unopposed victory reinforces his strong hold on the Edo North district as he eyes a return to the Senate.

The outcomes of these primaries position the APC candidates for the main polls in 2027.
