Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as “a camp for the politically displaced and desperate” and accusing the party of lacking a credible manifesto or vision for the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, Onanuga taunted the NDC and its national leader, former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, saying the party has no accessible plan for governing Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
The presidential aide’s comments come after Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Onanuga said he visited the NDC website twice in recent days out of curiosity to examine whether the party possesses “a markedly different vision for the governance of Nigeria” superior to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“I was, however, disappointed,” he stated, revealing that attempts to download the party’s manifesto returned the response: “No document found.”
He expressed surprise that the party, which was court-registered in February, has yet to upload a manifesto despite Dickson’s declaration that the NDC would wage an ideological battle in the 2027 poll.
Onanuga noted that the only policy documents available on the website are six “policy nuggets” promoted as pillars.
He dismissed them as sounding more like “the platitudes the party’s newest catch, Peter Obi, has bombarded the nation with in the last six years.”
The presidential spokesperson added that, despite the disappointment, he still looks forward to seeing the NDC’s vision and mission for Nigeria.
The fresh attacks highlight the growing political rivalry and exchanges between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the emerging opposition platforms as the country prepares for the next general election.
