The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has threatened fresh legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly refusing to obey several court judgments on its leadership crisis.
In a statement on Wednesday by the party’s Secretary General, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, the NNPP expressed disappointment after a closed-door meeting with INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, in Abuja failed to resolve the matter.
The party claimed it has secured favourable rulings from the Abia State High Court, the Federal Capital Territory High Court, and the Owerri Division of the Court of Appeal.
These judgments direct INEC to recognise Dr. Boniface Aniebonam as Founder/Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Agbo Major as National Chairman.
Olaposi said INEC has ignored a mandamus order to update its records within 72 hours, as well as other directives from the Appeal Court.
He noted that the INEC Chairman gave no firm commitment during the meeting, only saying the party would “hear from the commission."
With the 2027 elections approaching, the NNPP warned that INEC’s continued non-compliance could affect the electoral process.
The party said it is ready to pursue contempt proceedings and called on President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the judiciary to ensure INEC obeys court orders.
