The Nigeria Police Force has extradited a high-profile cyber fraud suspect, Samuel Ugberease, popularly known as “Putsammy” and “Putput,” to the United States over alleged involvement in online romance scams and wire fraud.
In a statement, the Police Force said the suspect was formally handed over to U.S. authorities following successful collaboration between INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja and American law enforcement agencies.
Investigations revealed that between 2014 and 2018, Ugberease and his syndicate allegedly created fake dating profiles to target and defraud several American women.
One victim reportedly lost more than $1.5 million to the scam.Ugberease was arrested in December 2025 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos based on an INTERPOL Red Notice issued by the United States.
The Federal High Court in Lagos subsequently approved his extradition in accordance with Nigeria’s extradition laws.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against cybercrime and enhancing international security cooperation to bring perpetrators to justice.
