Ned Nwoko Claims Victory Over Okowa in Delta North APC Senatorial Primary

Senator Ned Nwoko has declared himself the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Delta North, insisting he defeated former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by a wide margin.

The primary, held on Tuesday, has been overshadowed by controversy as both camps lay claim to victory amid allegations of irregularities, with the official result yet to be announced by the APC national leadership.

Nwoko’s Camp Rejects Okowa’s Declaration

Stakeholders loyal to Senator Nwoko, in a statement issued by Engr. Emma Eboh, dismissed what they described as Okowa’s “self-imposed and propagandist declaration of victory.”

They emphasised that the APC established a clear collation process from ward to local government area levels, constituency collation centres, and final submission to the national headquarters and that only the National Committee has the authority to declare the winner.

“ What Okowa has done is a clear violation of party rules and an attempt to manipulate perception ahead of due process,” the statement said.

Strong Lead for NwokoNwoko’s supporters released results from several wards showing a commanding lead for the incumbent senator. Some of the figures released include:

Ward 7, Ndokwa West: Nwoko 1,281 – Okowa 26

Ward 9, Abbi (Ndokwa West): Nwoko 1,505 – Okowa 420

Ward 7, Akumazi: Nwoko 687 – Okowa 5

Ward 13, Ute Ogbeje (Ika North East): Nwoko 415 – Okowa 13

In Oshimili South Local Government Area, the results were even more lopsided:

Ward 6: Nwoko 5,398 – Okowa 53

Ward 5: Nwoko 4,642 – Okowa 101

Ward 11: Nwoko 4,355 – Okowa 54

The group said these results reflect a consistent and overwhelming pattern across Delta North in favour of Senator Nwoko.

Allegations of Violence and IntimidationNwoko’s supporters also alleged that the primary was marred by violence and intimidation in areas considered his strongholds.

In Obiaruku, Ukwuani LGA, voters were reportedly attacked, while in Aniocha North LGA, one person identified as Ernest was allegedly stabbed.

They urged the APC National Committee to ensure the final declaration reflects the true will of party members in the district.

“As far as we are concerned in Delta North, the result is already evident. What remains is for the party to uphold its own rules,” the statement added.

The APC is yet to issue an official declaration on the Delta North senatorial primary as tension continues to build between the two major contenders.
