Two prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Nasarawa State have accused party leaders of plotting to rig the forthcoming governorship primaries and have called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
In a statement on Tuesday, Zamani Daniel and Ibrahim Tukur alleged “large-scale compromise and intimidation” of party officials at the state, local government and ward levels, warning that it threatens the credibility of the primary process.
The chieftains said the concerns arose after incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule publicly adopted Senator Ahmed Wadada as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race. They argued that the move undermines the chances of other aspirants getting a fair hearing.
Daniel and Tukur claimed that Governor Sule and Senator Wadada have been holding “clandestine meetings” and boasting of “purported instructions” from President Tinubu and businessman Gilbert Chagoury to secure Wadada’s victory “at all costs.”
“We know Mr. President to be a true democrat and a believer in upholding the wishes of the majority. We are alarmed that the primary election is already being rigged before it is conducted,” the statement read. “We call on Mr. President, our national chairman, and all men of conscience to rise against this aberration.”
The chieftains urged the APC National Secretary and President Tinubu to deploy fresh electoral officials for the primaries instead of relying on current state officials, whom they accused of lacking “moral standing and courage to officiate over the elections.”
They insisted they remain loyal to the APC but said only a transparent process would guarantee party unity and success in the 2027 polls.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the APC national leadership, Governor Sule, or Senator Wadada.
