Nafiu Bala’s Gombe Home Not Burnt — Police

The Gombe state police command has rejected social media reports of an alleged arson on the family home of Nafiu Bala, a factional leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Buhari Abdullahi, public relations officer of the command, in a statement described the reports as “false information”.

“The Gombe State Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the false information alleging that the house of Mr. Nafiu Bala was set ablaze in Gombe State,” the statement reads.

“The Command confirms that the report is false, as no such incident has been recorded anywhere in the State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, psc(+), urges members of the public to disregard this misinformation and remain calm, as the Command remains committed to ensuring peace and security across Gombe State.”

Bala is laying claim to the leadership of the ADC and has since taken the matter before courts.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) derecognised the leadership of ADC factions on April 1, citing an appeal court judgment.

On April 30, the supreme court directed the David Mark-led ADC faction to return to the federal high court for the hearing and determination of issues arising from the leadership dispute within the party.

Afterwards, INEC updated its website, listing Mark as the national chairman of the ADC and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary.
