Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has argued against calls for a N500,000 minimum wage in Nigeria, describing the proposal as unrealistic based on the country’s current economic situation.
The remarks were contained in a statement posted on his page.
According to the statement, Omokri referenced an artificial intelligence response from Grok, which reportedly described the proposed N500,000 minimum wage as unrealistic considering Nigeria’s fiscal realities.
He stated that implementing such a wage structure could force the country into borrowing to sustain salary payments.
“Unless you want Nigeria to return to the era of borrowing to pay salaries, a ₦500,000 minimum wage is unrealistic,” the statement read.
Omokri further stated that reactions to the issue should be guided by economic realities and the country’s available resources.
