Last Maiduguri Bomb Explosion Deliberately Planned to Sabotage Tinubu’s UK Visit – Musa

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has claimed that the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, were deliberately orchestrated to discourage President Bola Tinubu from embarking on his state visit to the United Kingdom.

Musa made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television on Friday while addressing the country’s security situation and ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

The minister noted that bomb attacks have significantly reduced compared to previous years when vehicle-borne and body-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were more frequent.

He, however, suggested that the few recent incidents appear to have political motives.“The last ones that happened in Maiduguri, Borno State, were meant to dissuade the President from visiting the UK,” Musa said. “It was deliberate… The intent is to make sure that the president doesn’t go there, or even if he goes there, he doesn’t have any leverage to speak.”

He described the development as unfortunate and appealed to Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used by destabilising forces.

Musa warned that allowing insecurity to destroy the country would have dire consequences, citing examples from war-torn nations like Sierra Leone and Liberia, where citizens who fled became second-class residents abroad.

The Defence Minister urged unity among Nigerians to tackle insecurity and prevent further violence.

The explosions in Maiduguri occurred shortly before President Tinubu’s historic state visit to the United Kingdom.
