Lack of Father Figure Pushed Me into Drug Addiction – Nollywood Actor Bucci Franklin

Award-winning Nollywood actor Bucci Franklin has opened up about his troubled childhood, disclosing that the absence of a father figure led him into drug addiction as he struggled to fill the emotional void.

In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, Franklin described his upbringing as “messy,” revealing that his father abandoned the family, leaving his mother to raise him single-handedly.

“I was a hot mess as a child. My dad abandoned me. My mom raised me alone, and I turned to drugs,” the actor recounted.

He explained that the lack of a paternal presence negatively impacted his life, driving him to substance abuse at some point. However, Franklin credited his mother’s unwavering support and efforts for helping him overcome the addiction.

The movie star expressed deep gratitude to his mother, attributing his success in life and his thriving acting career to her sacrifices and resilience.

Franklin emphasised the challenges of single parenting, stressing the importance of a father figure in a child’s life, particularly for boys. “It is not easy to be a single parent,” he noted, adding that children, especially males, need that paternal guidance and presence.

The revelation has sparked conversations about family structure, parental responsibility, and the long-term effects of fatherlessness on young people, especially in the context of rising substance abuse among youths.
