Stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna central have endorsed Shehu Sani as their preferred candidate ahead of the primaries.
The endorsement by LGA chairmen, members of the Kaduna state
house of assembly, state commissioners, and APC LGA chairmen from Kaduna
central senatorial district took place on Wednesday at the campaign office of
Uba Sani, governor of the state.
Speaking on Sani’s endorsement at the event, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, commissioner for LGA
affairs, said the decision followed a consultation among stakeholders in Kaduna
central.
Lagos said that the consensus does not stop a competitive
primary election.
“Major stakeholders across Kaduna central, including local
government leaders, have agreed on a candidate,” he said.
“This decision is based on credibility, proven track record,
and widespread acceptance. It does not mean others cannot contest the
primaries.
“We are looking for someone we can confidently present to
the people, someone who can win. At this point, we do not see any other
aspirant with the same level of acceptance.”
The commissioner said Sani’s past legislative performance
and continued relevance in national discourse made him the preferred choice,
adding that the endorsement was a collective resolution.
“He has served before, and his record speaks for him. He
remains one of the most popular political figures, not only in Kaduna Central
but across the country,” he said.
“This is not a personal decision. It is a joint resolution
of local government chairmen and stakeholders. On behalf of them all, we have
endorsed Comrade Shehu Sani.”
While commending Sani for consistently drawing national
attention to insecurity in the area during his tenure, Salisu Isah, executive
chairman of Birnin Gwari LGA, noted the interventions of Sani in supporting
vigilante groups, health facilities, and community infrastructure.
On his part, Sani said that the endorsement does not exclude
other aspirants from contesting.
“This endorsement does not prevent anyone from contesting.
Any party member who wishes to run is free to come forward. I welcome a
competitive primary election,” he said.
“I sincerely thank all stakeholders, party executives, and
leaders at both state and local government levels, particularly the governor,
for this endorsement. It is a challenge, a recognition of past efforts, and an
appeal for greater service ahead.”
Sani noted that he passed through party primaries when he
served as senator from 2015 to 2019.
“I served as senator between 2015 and 2019, and I went
through competitive primaries. By the grace of God, I hope to return in 2027,”
he said.
The former senator noted that the endorsement was a
challenge to do more.
“If I was able to build hospitals, schools, and touch lives
despite political challenges in the past, then with greater cooperation today,
we can achieve even more,” he added.
