President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed the personal toll the demands of the presidency have taken on him, saying he has lost both sleep and weight while carrying out the responsibilities of leading Nigeria.
The President made the disclosure on Sunday during his acceptance speech after emerging as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Tinubu described the job as one that requires total commitment and sacrifice, noting that the weight of governance often keeps him awake at night as he thinks through complex national challenges.
“I lost sleep, I lost weight for this presidency job,” Tinubu said, drawing applause and murmurs of sympathy from the audience at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
He explained that the role demands constant vigilance, especially in addressing critical issues such as economic reforms, security, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Despite the personal cost, the President said he remains fully dedicated to the task.Tinubu used the moment to reaffirm his resolve, stating that the sacrifices are worthwhile if they lead to lasting progress and a better Nigeria.
He pledged to continue working tirelessly in the remaining months of his current term and, if re-elected, to push the country further along the path of sustainable development.
The candid admission comes as Tinubu positions himself for a second term, emphasising continuity of his administration’s reform agenda amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
He urged Nigerians to support leaders who are willing to make genuine sacrifices rather than those offering empty promises.
