The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has initiated moves to establish a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State and secure full accreditation for 42 police colleges across the country.
Disu held a high-level strategic meeting with officials of the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday, May 4, 2026, hosted by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, the meeting focused on two major goals: officially establishing the new Police Academy campus in Ogun State and implementing a comprehensive plan to upgrade and accredit the 42 police colleges nationwide.
A former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other key stakeholders also attended the meeting.
Discussions included collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for infrastructure development and engagement with the National Universities Commission (NUC) for resource verification and accreditation processes.
A clear timeline has been set for the Ogun State campus to become fully operational for the 2026 academic session.
The IGP emphasised that the reforms would blend academic excellence with tactical operational training to produce officers equipped to tackle contemporary security challenges.
“IGP Disu reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to professional excellence, emphasising that transforming these institutions is essential for building a modern, service-oriented police force,” the statement said.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen police education and improve training standards within the Nigeria Police Force.
