Hayatu-Deen Vows to Stay in ADC Presidential Race, Rejects Stepping Down for Rivals

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has firmly ruled out withdrawing from the 2027 race, declaring that he will not step aside for any other contender ahead of the party’s primaries.

In a strong statement, Hayatu-Deen emphasized that Nigeria urgently needs competent and visionary leadership to reverse nearly two decades of economic decline, escalating insecurity, and widespread hardship.

He argued that weak leadership since 2007 has fueled challenges such as high inflation, unemployment, deteriorating education and healthcare systems, and persistent insecurity.

Addressing speculation about competing against high-profile figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, the aspirant asserted that every eligible Nigerian has the constitutional right to contest for office.

“This is a very serious undertaking, and we are at a defining moment in our country’s history,” he said.

Hayatu-Deen drew inspiration from nations like Rwanda and Ghana, which he said successfully recovered from crises through disciplined and effective governance.

He expressed confidence in his own background, ideas, and capacity to drive national turnaround, with a focus on inclusive prosperity and improved welfare for all Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or region.

On the possibility of not securing the ADC ticket, Hayatu-Deen pledged loyalty to the party’s eventual candidate. “I have built a reputation and credibility over many years. Whoever emerges as the candidate will have my full support.

I will stand behind that person and work with the party to ensure victory at the polls,” he assured.

He highlighted the ADC’s emphasis on party supremacy over personal ambition and called for possible cooperation among opposition parties to offer credible alternatives to voters.

Hayatu-Deen stressed the need for stronger citizen accountability in Nigeria’s democracy, noting that widespread poverty and low political awareness have undermined this process.

The declaration comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as various figures position themselves within the ADC and other platforms.
