Gun to my Head, I Won't Stay Beyond Four Years - Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reiterated his commitment to serving only a single four-year term if elected president of Nigeria, emphasizing stability and a smooth transition of power.

In a clip from an upcoming interview on News Central TV, Obi stated firmly: “I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years.”

The former Anambra State governor made the remarks amid ongoing criticism of the current administration’s economic policies. He highlighted concerns over excessive borrowing and the rising cost of living, describing the present period as one of Nigeria’s most challenging economic times.

Obi placed third in the 2023 presidential election behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Since then, he has remained an active opposition voice, consistently scrutinizing the Tinubu administration’s reforms.

His latest pledge echoes previous statements positioning him as a leader focused on institutional stability rather than prolonged tenure. The comments come as political discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
