Ex-Power Minister Adelabu Loses Oyo APC Governorship Ticket as Senator Alli Wins

Senator Sarafadeen Alli has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Oyo State for the 2027 election, defeating former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

Alli polled a massive 578,143 votes to clinch the ticket, while Adelabu managed only 19,193 votes, with one other aspirant also in the race.

The direct primary, held on Thursday, saw Alli dominate across most local government areas and wards in the state.

Party officials described the process as largely peaceful and a strong show of unity within the Oyo APC.

Adelabu, who resigned from his ministerial position to contest the governorship seat, however, rejected the outcome.

He alleged widespread manipulation, including early voting in some wards, intimidation of voters, and result falsification.

Speaking to journalists after voting at his ward, the ex-minister warned of gross irregularities in several areas and vowed to challenge the process.

Senator Alli, who represents Oyo South in the Senate, called for calm and party unity as the APC prepares to challenge the ruling PDP in Oyo State in the 2027 governorship election.
