The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has congratulated Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas on their emergence as winners of the party’s senatorial primaries in Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts respectively.
The party also commended all aspirants, party leaders, and members who participated in the exercise for what it described as their maturity, commitment, and dedication to the democratic process.
This was contained in a statement signed by the APC State Publicity Secretary in Delta State, Valentine Onojeghuo, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Tuesday night.
The statement read, “The outcomes of these elections are expressions of the will of the members of the party.”
The party said the senatorial primaries were conducted peacefully and in substantial compliance with the approved guidelines of the APC and the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
“The Senatorial Primaries were conducted peacefully and in substantial compliance with the approved guidelines of the party, as well as the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
“In particular, Section 9(ii)(e) of the party’s guidelines clearly mandates the Primary Election Committee to ‘officially declare and announce the outcomes of all primaries conducted.
“This provision was fully complied with by the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Delta State, ably led by Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo as Chairman and Barr. Musa Amagbor as Secretary, who officially declared and announced the outcomes of the primaries upon the conclusion of the exercise,” the statement read.
The APC added that it was satisfied with the conduct of the exercise, noting that the process complied with extant electoral laws relating to party primaries and nomination of candidates.
“The party is satisfied that the process followed the extant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, relating to the conduct of party primaries and the nomination of candidates, reinforcing our commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy,” it stated.
The party urged members and stakeholders to unite ahead of future elections.
“As we congratulate our successful candidates, we urge all members and stakeholders to close ranks and work together in the larger interest of the party. Victory in the coming elections will require unity, sacrifice, and collective effort from all of us,” the statement added.
The APC further encouraged registered party members to participate peacefully in the remaining primaries, particularly the State House of Assembly direct primary elections.
“All eligible members are encouraged to participate peacefully and in accordance with party guidelines. Delta APC remains committed to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring a credible process that reflects the wishes of our members,” the statement concluded.
Recall that Dafinone emerged winner of the senatorial primary election of the APC for Delta Central, defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, in a landslide outcome.
Okowa also secured victory in the Delta North senatorial primary, while incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas maintained a strong lead in Delta South, according to results announced by party officials.
