The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced direct aviation fuel (jet fuel) deliveries to Ethiopian Airlines, marking a major milestone in its expansion into the global jet fuel supply chain.
This development positions the Nigerian refinery as a key player in international petroleum product markets, particularly in the aviation sector.
The move comes amid tightening global energy supplies caused by geopolitical tensions, including disruptions linked to the US-Iran situation.
According to reports, the refinery, one of the largest single-train facilities in the world has reached sufficient production capacity to meet domestic needs while exporting surplus jet fuel, diesel, and petrol to various African and international markets.
Industry observers view the direct supply agreement with Ethiopian Airlines, one of Africa’s largest carriers, as a boost for regional energy security.
It is expected to help lower operational costs for African airlines that traditionally rely on imported jet fuel and strengthen intra-African trade.
“We’re proud to have done a direct delivery to Ethiopian Airlines, and we will continue to export surplus production to neighbouring African countries,” a representative of the refinery was quoted as saying, reaffirming its commitment to an “Africa first” approach.
The development further highlights Dangote Refinery’s rapid progress in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products and establishing the country as a net exporter of petroleum derivatives.
