Consensus Candidate Vows to Defeat Goje in Gombe APC Senatorial Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District, DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd), has expressed strong confidence that he will defeat incumbent Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje in the party’s direct primary election scheduled for Saturday.

The Gombe State APC had earlier selected Ahmed as the consensus candidate during a stakeholders’ meeting, setting up a direct clash with Senator Goje, who is seeking a record fifth term in the Senate.

Speaking during stakeholders’ engagements across the senatorial district, Ahmed said widespread consultations showed that the people are yearning for a new leadership style anchored on collective participation, justice, fairness, and inclusiveness.

“I would prioritise justice, fair play and inclusiveness where everybody is a stakeholder. Everybody is going to be part of this. There is no monopoly,” he said.

“I am sure this is the time God has destined. Whatever God has at hand, nobody can stop you.”Ahmed reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Meanwhile, Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Bello Kumo, backed the push for a “power shift” to Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area after nearly two decades of representation by Akko LGA.

Kumo described the agitation for rotation as a democratic and moral demand, stressing the need for inclusivity and equal opportunity.

“After holding that office for consecutive 16 years, it is only moral and fair that you say to your brothers, ‘Come and try, come and display your talents.’ There is nothing wrong with that,” he said.

He dismissed fears of violence during the primaries, saying victory would be determined by grassroots popularity, and praised the consensus arrangement initiated by Governor Yahaya.

Senator Goje, however, has insisted that his constituents remain solidly behind him despite what he called “external influence.”After his screening in Abuja last week, Goje described himself as a founding member of the APC and expressed confidence in retaining the mandate to continue developmental projects in the district.

The primaries for the Gombe Central Senatorial ticket are expected to hold on Saturday.
