City Boy Movement Distances Itself from Man Allegedly Convicted of Fraud in the US

The City Boy Movement has firmly rejected any association with Mr. Adepoju Babatunde Salako, following media reports linking him to the pro-Tinubu socio-political group over an alleged fraud conviction in the United States.

In a statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, the organisation described claims connecting Salako to the movement as “false, misleading, and politically motivated.”

It emphasised that Salako has never been a member or held any official position within the group at any level, national, state, zonal, diaspora, or international.

The statement further clarified that Salako was never authorised to act as a coordinator, spokesperson, mobilisation officer, or representative of the movement in the US or elsewhere.

“The City Boy Movement completely dissociates itself from the said individual and from every publication, insinuation, or narrative attempting to create a false relationship between him and the Movement,” the statement added.

The group suggested the attempts to link Salako to it form part of a broader effort to discredit support organisations aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It noted that initial reports on the alleged fraud case did not mention the City Boy Movement, questioning the sudden emergence of such narratives.

The movement also highlighted conflicting claims in some reports that identified Salako as a coordinator for another pro-Tinubu platform, “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria,” arguing this exposes indiscriminate political smear tactics.

While stressing it does not intend to interfere in any legal proceedings involving Salako and affirming every citizen’s right to fair hearing, the organisation maintained it would not tolerate false attributions that could damage its reputation.

“The City Boy Movement cannot and will not accept false attribution, reputational manipulation, or deliberate attempts to create artificial relationships where none exist,” it declared.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to youth mobilisation, democratic participation, and national development under the ideals of President Tinubu’s political vision, and urged the public and media to disregard any reports linking Salako to the movement.

This denial comes amid ongoing political activities by the City Boy Movement, which positions itself as a key youth platform supporting the Renewed Hope agenda ahead of future elections.
