Tensions boiled over into violence on Saturday as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed during the party’s primary election in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Eyewitness accounts and circulating videos show party members and supporters engaging in a heated brawl at the election venue, bringing the exercise to a chaotic halt.
The footage, which lasts about one minute, captures a large crowd of men, many in traditional kaftans and caps, others in casual wear fighting, shoving, and dragging at least one individual into a vehicle.
The incident highlights the high-stakes atmosphere surrounding the APC primaries ahead of future elections, despite recent warnings from party leaders against violence and disruptions.
No immediate reports on casualties or arrests were available, but the clash has raised concerns about the smooth conduct of the process in the area.
This latest event in Igabi adds to a pattern of reported irregularities and tensions in some Kaduna APC primaries, with aspirants and members elsewhere complaining about missing materials and unconducted voting.
Party officials are yet to issue an official statement on the Igabi disturbance as the situation develops.
