The Borno State Government has temporarily closed and relocated Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Musa in Askira/Uba Local Government Area following the abduction of 42 students by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, announced the closure during a visit to the affected community on Monday.
According to a statement by Governor Babagana Zulum’s spokesperson, Dauda Illiya, the affected students will be relocated to Government Secondary School, Uba, as part of measures under the Safe Schools Initiative to protect learners and ensure academic activities continue in a safer environment.
Wakilbe met with community leaders, parents of the abducted students, and military officials, including the Commanding Officer of the 115 Battalion, Askira, Lt. Col. Ishola Olufisola.
He assured residents that the state government is intensifying efforts to secure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
A parent, Ishaku Jidaye, commended Governor Zulum for his swift response and appealed for more intensified rescue operations.
The delegation also visited Dille and Lassa communities to assess security in public schools and directed full implementation of Safe Schools Initiative measures.
The students were abducted on May 16 when suspected insurgents attacked Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira/Uba LGA.
