Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The defection, announced on Sunday, comes shortly after the senator withdrew from the APC governorship primary in Bauchi State.
He had cited alleged irregularities and violations of the party’s electoral guidelines during the process.
In his resignation statement, Senator Buba attributed his exit to the lack of internal democracy, unfair treatment of members, and disregard for the views of grassroots supporters within the APC.
He said the decision followed wide consultations with political associates, youth groups, women groups, stakeholders, and supporters across Bauchi South and the state.
Describing the PRP as a party rooted in justice, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and people-oriented leadership, the senator expressed confidence that the platform would enable him to better serve the people of Bauchi.
“Our people deserve better governance, better opportunities, and leadership that truly listens to their concerns,” he said.
“Politics should be about service, justice, development, and improving the living conditions of the masses.”
Senator Buba pledged his continued commitment to the welfare of Bauchi residents and urged his supporters to join him in the push for good governance, social justice, and sustainable development.
The move is expected to reshape the political landscape in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly the governorship race.
