The Nigerian Army has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of social media influencer Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” citing concerns over alleged attempts to stir discontent within its ranks.
In a statement issued on May 2 by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said its attention was drawn to complaints raised by some soldiers about feeding and welfare, which were shared online by Chidiebere.
According to the Army, preliminary findings suggest that beyond highlighting welfare issues, the influencer engaged soldiers in discussions that “bordered on subversion,” allegedly encouraging dissatisfaction within the system.
The statement warned that civilian interactions capable of influencing military personnel toward indiscipline could have serious implications for national security.
The Army confirmed that Chidiebere was arrested alongside the involved soldiers as part of an ongoing investigation into a possible breach of the Armed Forces’ social media policy and an attempt to misinform the public.
While the soldiers remain in military custody, Chidiebere has reportedly been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
It was earlier reported that TPR Umar Jamila who alleged poor feeding of troops in the North eastern part of the country had been arrested.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the Army stated it would continue to collaborate with appropriate agencies to ensure justice is served while safeguarding national sovereignty.
