The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its presidential primary election for the 2027 polls will hold on May 23, 2026, dismissing reports suggesting that the exercise has been postponed.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Felix Morka, the
party’s national publicity secretary, the APC described reports on social media
and other communication platforms about changes to the timetable as false and
misleading.
The ruling party said its House of Representatives primary
election would be held on May 15, 2026.
It fixed the Senate primary election for May 18, while the State House of Assembly primary is scheduled for May 20.
According to the timetable, the governorship primary
election is scheduled for May 21, while the presidential primary is slated for
May 23, 2026.
On Saturday, the party commenced screening of incumbent
governors ahead of the 2027 general election.
Governors screened by the committee included Abba Yusuf of
Kano, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Caleb Mutfwang of
Plateau, and Hyacinth Alia of Benue.
Others were Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Umar Bago of Niger,
Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Bassey Otu of Cross River, and Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto.
