The North-Central Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, demanding his resignation over alleged monetisation and manipulation of the recently concluded party primaries.
In a strongly worded statement released on Friday by its National Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the Forum accused the Yilwatda-led National Working Committee (NWC) of incompetence, violation of the party’s constitution, and turning the primaries into a money-making venture.
The group claimed that results were arbitrarily altered to favour preferred candidates while genuine aspirants were screened out or denied victory in several states.
It warned that if Yilwatda fails to step down by June 12, 2026, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Forum will take legal action against him.
“We are issuing a two-week ultimatum to the national chairman to resign because of incompetence, violation of the party’s constitution, monetization of the just concluded party primaries and changing the results when it favoured those perceived as not in his camp,” the statement said.
The Forum further alleged that the NWC manipulated outcomes across the country, citing the presidential primary result as a major example.
Chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, former Senate President Pius Anyim, had declared President Bola Tinubu winner with 10,999,162 votes against Stanley Osifo’s 16,503 votes.
The North-Central APC Forum described the figures as inflated and questionable, noting that the APC has only about eight million registered voters nationwide.
“The party has eight million registered voters but when they released the result of Mr President in the presidential primary they wrote more than 10 million votes. The guidelines stated that only those that are registered are going to vote. So this means that, all over the country, what they did was selection of candidates, not election,” the statement added.
The Forum argued that the controversies have seriously weakened the APC, leading to the resignation of several key members who have since defected to other parties.
Among them is former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, who resigned after losing the Delta Central Senatorial primary and has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Similarly, Prof. Yilwatda’s former Chief of Staff, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, resigned from the party after losing his return ticket in Kano State and also defected to the NDC.
The North-Central Forum said the National Chairman and his team must be held accountable for the widespread disputes that trailed the State Assembly, National Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries.
