No fewer than 81 aspirants are contesting Saturday’s House of Representatives primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State.
A list released in the early hours of Saturday showed that 14 aspirants are contesting for the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency seat, the constituency of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Seven aspirants are also contesting for the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency seat, where the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, hails from.
Among the contenders in the constituency is Akume’s wife, Regina Akume.
Also in the race is Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark.
She is contesting alongside three other aspirants for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency ticket.
Meanwhile, the APC secretariat in the state was filled with aspirants and party members.
The Benue APC primaries are coming amid renewed efforts by party leaders to resolve internal disagreements between camps linked to Governor Alia and Akume, following months of factional disputes within the party in the state.
