Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential primary election held across Wards in Abia State on Monday.
He scored 25,153 votes to beat his closest challenger,
Rotimi Amaechi.
Amaechi, who is a former Minister of Transportation and
former Governor of Rivers State, came second in the Abia presidential election
primary with 18,339 votes.
Businessman, Mohammed Hayatu-deen came third in the exercise
after garnering 3,264 votes.
The result was
announced by the Returning Officer, Onyebuchi Chukwu.
Speaking about the outcome of the election, the Publicity
Secretary of ADC in Abia, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya commended the members of the
APC in Arochukwu for turning out in mass to participate in the party primary
and for their peaceful conduct.
The presidential primary, which was conducted peacefully in
different parts of Abia State, was monitored by security agencies.
