Abati: Tinubu is ‘Owner of the Game’, Should Start School of Politics, Strategy

Veteran journalist and former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, has said President Bola Tinubu displayed total political mastery in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary held over the weekend.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Abati described Tinubu’s landslide victory as proof that the President is “the owner of the game” and suggested the country should establish a “Tinubu school of politics and strategy.”

Abati noted that Tinubu polled over 11 million votes in the APC presidential primary against his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who managed just over 1,000 votes.

He said the outcome sends a powerful message to opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The president has been given 11 million votes. If his party can give him 11 million votes, then the opposition will need to get more than that,” Abati said.

He added that the result creates a “demonstration effect” for opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stressing that they now face a high bar to match or surpass Tinubu’s showing within his own party.

While praising the strategic display, Abati also pointed out flaws in the process, noting protests, disagreements over consensus and direct primaries in some states, and difficulties with basic vote counting.

“I think we should get to a point in this country where we should start a Tinubu school of politics and strategy, because what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done over the weekend is to show that he’s the owner of the game,” Abati declared.
