The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has cautioned members of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State against allowing the race for National Assembly tickets to create division within the party.
Bamidele gave the warning on Friday at a meeting of the party’s Central Senatorial District in Ado Ekiti.
He said opposition parties were waiting to take advantage of any internal crisis in the APC to expand their support base.
The Senate leader stressed the need for unity and effective internal management to prevent disputes ahead of the party primaries.
He urged aspirants, particularly those contesting for seats in the House of Representatives, to remain committed to the party, irrespective of the outcome of the primaries.
Bamidele said the party would follow due process in selecting its candidates, noting that both consensus and direct primary options were recognised under the law.
He said, “The electoral law has prescribed two modes of primaries. One is through consensus, the other is through direct primaries.
“Even those of us who would emerge through consensus, we still have to go through the primaries. Everybody will face primaries, including me.”
He advised aspirants who might not secure tickets not to see themselves as failures but to remain loyal to the party.
Also speaking, the Ekiti APC Chairman, Sola Elesin, commended members for maintaining peace in the district and assured aspirants of a level playing field where consensus arrangements are not adopted.
He urged party members to sustain unity and mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections in the state.
The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Habibat Adubiaro, also called for unity among party faithful, insisting that there was no division within the district.
