2027: Hayatu-Deen Picks N100m ADC Presidential Form

Renowned economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has purchased the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form for the 2027 general elections, becoming the first aspirant to do so.

Hayatu-Deen collected the expression of interest and nomination forms, which cost N100 million, from the party’s National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo. His supporters described the move as a strong indication of growing momentum for his candidacy.

In a statement issued shortly after picking up the forms on Friday, Hayatu-Deen emphasised the need to tackle insecurity, create jobs, and reduce the high cost of living affecting millions of Nigerians.

“Nigerians are tired of living in fear. They are tired of watching businesses struggle, jobs disappear, and the cost of basic necessities rise beyond what ordinary people can afford,” he said.

He added: “This election cannot be about politics as usual. It must be about how to secure our communities, rebuild confidence in the economy, create jobs at scale, and make life more affordable for millions of Nigerians. We cannot build prosperity in an atmosphere of fear and instability. Security is the foundation upon which every strong economy is built.”

The former presidential aspirant pledged to implement policies that would lower the cost of doing business, support small and medium enterprises, empower youths, and drive inclusive economic growth.

Drawing from his decades of experience in banking and business, he said Nigeria possesses the talent and potential to thrive under disciplined leadership.

The ADC has set the sale of nomination forms from May 6 to May 13, with its presidential primary scheduled for May 25, 2026.

Hayatu-Deen’s entry into the race adds to the growing list of contenders within the opposition party as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 polls. INEC has fixed the presidential election for January 16, 2027.
