2027: APC Disqualifies 105 Kwara Assembly Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has disqualified no fewer than 105 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the Kwara State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The results of the screening exercise, displayed at the APC secretariat in Ilorin on Thursday, showed that only 53 out of 158 aspirants who obtained nomination forms were cleared to proceed.

Several serving lawmakers eyeing second and third terms were among those declared “uncleared” by the party’s screening committee.

In the Kwara Central Senatorial District, nearly all incumbents were cleared except Hon. Ayishat Tundun Alanamu, representing the Alanamu/Ajikobi Constituency.

The picture was different in Kwara South, where multiple serving members failed to secure clearance.

Those disqualified include:Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salahu (Omupo Constituency)

Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq (Share/Oke-Ode Constituency)

Hon. Bamigboye Joseph (Oke-Ero)

Hon. Omotosho Olakunle Rasaq (Isin)

Hon. Yusuf Abdulwaheed Gbenga (Essa/Shawo/Igboidun)

In Kwara North, the two serving lawmakers from Moro Local Government Area successfully scaled through the screening. However, Hon. Issa Gideon, representing Edu Constituency and currently under suspension by the House, was not cleared.

Lawmakers from Oyun Local Government Area, including Deputy Speaker Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode, were cleared.

Notably, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and Hon. Ganiyu Gabriel (Ekiti Constituency) did not obtain nomination forms for re-election. Danladi-Salihu is a strong contender for the APC gubernatorial ticket, while Gabriel is eyeing a federal House of Representatives seat.

The chairman of the screening committee, Prof. Success Musa, had earlier described the large number of aspirants as a sign of the APC’s growing popularity in the state.

The development has caused anxiety among some incumbent lawmakers and their supporters, particularly those seeking re-election under the ruling party.

The Kwara State House of Assembly has 24 members representing constituencies across the state’s 16 local government areas.
