Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has donated N15 million to victims of the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos north LGA of Plateau state.
Yilwatda announced the donation on Saturday during a visit
to injured victims receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital
(JUTH).
On Sunday, about 28 people were killed, and several others
were injured when suspected bandits wreaked havoc in the community.
The APC chairman said the funds are aimed at supporting the
medical care of survivors and easing the burden on victims affected by the
attack.
Describing the incident as “barbaric” and “unacceptable”,
Yilwatda said the killings in Plateau must come to an end.
“This attack is a direct assault on our common humanity. The
time has come for all stakeholders to move beyond routine condemnation and work
collectively to prevent any recurrence,” he said.
The APC chairman said the administration of Bola Tinubu
remains committed to restoring peace and strengthening security operations
across the country.
He added that “no society can make meaningful progress where
innocent citizens continue to live in fear and uncertainty”.
Yilwatda called for coordinated efforts among political
leaders, security agencies, and community stakeholders to address the recurring
violence, warning that the crisis must not be normalised or politicised.
“The tragedy in Plateau must not be reduced to another
passing news cycle. It must provoke renewed urgency and sustained action to
protect communities from further attacks,” he said.
He also commiserated with families of those who lost their
lives, while expressing appreciation to medical personnel at JUTH for attending
to the victims.
