The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is welcome to join the ruling party if he chooses to do so.
Yilwatda made the statement during a media chat on Wednesday night, emphasising that the APC does not force anyone into its fold.
“If he wants to join the APC, he is free to do so. We don’t compel people to join APC. People willingly join APC,” he said.
The APC chairman dismissed any notion that appointments in the Tinubu administration are conditional on party membership.
He pointed out that several individuals who had publicly criticised President Bola Tinubu are currently serving in government.
“There’s nowhere you will see that there was an agreement with us that you must join APC before you serve in our government. People that insulted Mr President, he appointed them. They are in our government. He didn’t ask them to join the APC,” Yilwatda added.
He further praised President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style, noting that the president has welcomed even his strongest critics into his administration.
“Those that insulted him, he welcomed them in broad daylight,” the APC chairman said.
The remarks come amid ongoing political speculation about Wike’s future political alignment, as the FCT Minister remains a prominent figure within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while serving in the APC-led federal government.
