Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has disclosed details of his closed-door meeting with Peter Obi, saying their discussions focused on key national issues, including economic recovery and citizens’ welfare.
Mohammed, who shared details of the meeting in a post on X
on Thursday, said he received Obi at the Government House in Bauchi, describing
the engagement as timely.
“Today, I received the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential
candidate and a chieftain of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, at the Government House in
Bauchi. Our discussions centered on critical national issues, including
economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens,” he said.
The governor noted that the meeting also provided an
opportunity to review the country’s political climate and the need for
institutional strengthening.
“We also took time to review the evolving political
landscape and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen our democratic
institutions,” he added.
Mohammed commended Obi for the visit, stressing the
importance of dialogue among political actors in addressing national
challenges.
“I commended him for the visit, as engagements of this
nature foster mutual understanding and help drive practical, people-focused
solutions,” he said.
He further revealed that both leaders agreed on the need for
political stakeholders to prioritise national interest over partisan
considerations.
“We jointly urged all stakeholders to rise above
partisanship and place the national interest at the forefront of all
decisions,” Mohammed stated.
