Two passengers died, and 20 were injured during a road accident at Wudil t-junction on Maiduguri road in Kano state.
According to NAN, the accident, which happened on Saturday,
involved a DAF trailer loaded with goods and passengers, travelling from Wudil
Market to Lagos state.
Abdullahi Labaran, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC), Kano command, said preliminary investigations reveal that the
driver lost control due to overspeeding.
Labaran said the accident victims were taken to Wudil
General Hospital for treatment.
“We received a distress call at about 9:25am and arrived at
the scene within 10 minutes,” the FRSC Kano spokesperson said
“The accident involved a DAF trailer loaded with goods and
passengers, travelling from Wudil Market en route to Lagos state.
“The passengers were 30 male adults; two persons died, 20
others sustained varying degrees of injuries, while eight were unhurt.”
Labaran quoted Idris Muhammed-Lawan, the FRSC Kano
commander, as expressing concern over persistent violation of road safety
regulations, especially the use of trailers for conveying passengers.
Muhammed-Lawan said over speeding and overloading remained
major causes of road crashes, while urging drivers to comply strictly with
traffic rules.
He advised the public to avoid boarding trailers and other
unsafe vehicles.
In February 2026, at least 30 people died in a road accident
involving a trailer at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa LGA of Kano.
