President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion for the next fiscal year.
The President also signed a separate bill extending the implementation of the 2025 budget from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
The extension is expected to allow Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) more time to fully utilise funds from the current budget.
According to details released by the Presidency, the ₦68.32 trillion budget is allocated as follows:
Statutory Transfers: ₦4.799 trillion
Debt Service: ₦15.8 trillion
Recurrent Expenditure: ₦15.4 trillion
Capital Expenditure: ₦32.2 trillion
Capital expenditure, which is targeted at infrastructure and long-term development projects, represents the largest share of the budget at approximately 47%.
This is the first time Nigeria’s budget has crossed the ₦60 trillion mark, reflecting the administration’s ambitious plans for economic recovery, infrastructure development, and improved public service delivery amid rising debt obligations.
Further details on sectoral allocations and implementation strategies are expected to be released by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in the coming days.
